Bitter Greens

A Poem

Bitter greens

Slithering unseen

Through my dreams

A strenuous subcutaneous existence

Complaisance in a crime of the mind

Wandering through the hallowed chambers of change

Faining pain to gain the upper hand

An expanded sniveling

Yet persistent

Loaves of loathing self-doubt

Trout flopping about

Festering in vain

For everyone and everything they complain about

Has come and gone once more

While they sit in a drawer

Waiting for what has already passed them

Because the unwanted attention was not their intention

They remain

Frozen in suspension

    Very interesting poem

  • With the mention of sitting in a drawer, I thought maybe you had unused Green Stamps from 1974 (or thereabouts).
