The acrid bite, a morning's sting,

Black brew that wakes, a bitter thing.

Steam curls aloft, a wispy sigh,

As sleep departs with bleary eye.

The porcelain cup, cool in hand,

Holds liquid darkness, coarse sand.

A single sip, a jolt that jars,

Chasing away the drowsy stars.

The bitter tang, a welcome friend,

Sharpens senses, sets mind to mend.

Thoughts take flight, a focused stream,

Fueled by darkness, not a dream.

The world unfurls, details defined,

Energy surges, purpose aligned.

Though harsh the taste, a price to pay,

For clarity's dawn, to face the day.

But as it cools, the sweetness hides,

A hint of chocolate, where bitterness bides.

A subtle shift, a lingering grace,

A hidden reward in the bitter's embrace.
