Birthday Cupcakes

Only Old School Matters

Intoxicated by the harsh reality,

I had almost forgotten

that my birthday was approaching.

I had bought cupcakes to bring to work,

But now, it seems superfluous since

all preoccupied females are upset.

They are buzzing around

like bees in their own gossip beehive.

There is no need to give them

any more fodder to talk about.

The bright colours of their designs

may meet a harsh critique

and their shapes may turn out

too provocative to attempt.

I think old school has a lot to do with it,

no longer young, but neither too old.

I have no desire to involve myself

in corrupted schemes,

never finding a good reason for it.

Somehow, I have always steered clear of narcissism.

Having experienced it first-hand,

I never wanted to mingle myself with that sort of thing.

Even for my benefit,

what would I do with it?

If, for the remaining days, I would have cried over

unintentionally hurting someone.

Even if they were a clear enemy,

what was the purpose?

It's more satisfying to witness their realisation

that they were the ones in the wrong, not me.

All the lies and threats

they directed towards me

eventually backfired,

and they ended up paying the ultimate price.

While I

indulge in pastel cupcakes like a child,

feeling younger and younger.

I gaze upon the tainted world

through rose-tinted lenses

contemplating

what makes them do such things?

Greed, money, gluttony, wrath?

Among other things.

We all feel them sometimes,

but to let them consume your life?

Well, I would never succumb to that fate,

so, here's to celebrate freely!

This is such a deep and reflective piece. I love how it moves from feelings of isolation to quiet triumph, ending on a note of self-acceptance and celebration. The contrast between the chaos of others and your own peace is really powerful. And the imagery of pastel cupcakes is a lovely touch—it feels like a small but meaningful act of joy. Beautifully written! 😊🎂 https://spotifycreators-web.app.link/e/ufTnQ1JvFQb
