Lately, I have been noticing that I can hear birds chirping much more easily than before. Sometimes, I close my eyes and try to guess how far away they really are from me. This morning I woke up just before sunrise, but my bird friends had already beat me to it!
My friend finds me before I find myself
With squishy eyes and a dented face
Two layers of blankets
And four painted walls
Are not enough to keep us apart
A quiet air, a subtle glow
Outside I cannot tell if it’s the sun or the moon
Barely rising
I’m in no rush, but I’m eager to say,
“hello” to my friend that is already flying!
This poem is part of a series of 25 daily word experiments I am committing to for the month of October. The motto: “Sometimes garbage, sometimes sweet, not fun everyday, but everyday anyway!” Intrigued to experience what can be created (and discovered) in the process of developing a consistent writing practice, I will be writing a poem a day until my Vocal+ subscription ends at the end of the month. Let’s gooooo!
