Big Eyes Small Mouth
The best animation lives! What is this feeling? Word salad?
A poem about our pandemic love affair with a subscription to an anime streaming service.
~~~~~
No, not a haiku,
At least not primarily,
But haiku to start.
~~~~~~
We love the mechs we always knew,
The pirates and the kings,
We love the schoolkids, wizards, too,
And dragons with their wings.
~
The heroes questing for their goals,
And youkai, weapons, ghosts,
The children bargaining their souls,
To demons or their hosts.
~
We love the bad translations here,
The subtitles of length,
"Weaknesses they're not," we cheer,
To us, they are a strength.
~
They help us understand an art,
A culture and some myths,
They keep us learning more in part,
Important for wordsmiths.
~
Our best pandemic purchase, true,
The most useful by far,
For when we're missing you and you,
It is a shining star.
~
A glimpse into another place,
A time and culture, too,
It's kept us sane in any case,
Don't scoff, you know it's true.
