BICYCLING

Bells are ringing! What a beautiful morning!

The sun round and yellow in the sky

Lounge lizards are smoking! What a beautiful night!

Shop windows spilling yellow light

I went cycling earlier today

A stray pebble hit me square in the third eye

I blinked it open to see

Orange on yellow on pink on blue on green

Shivering and bright!

And the frame of my bicycle

Shook with the weight of it all

But it didn’t buckle or buck me off

I really love that bicycle

I ride and I wait and I watch

And the river marbled into the mountains

And the mountains marbled into the sky

Like paint mixing in a bucket, cream into coffee

Cast up your eyes!

All our days run beside each other

Horses cantering between white lines

All our days run together

Milk into tea, thread into twine

And the road beneath me goes to ribbons

Peaks and valleys, then is pulled taught

Candies in pink and silver are wrapped

Red berries burst astringent on the tongue

Two eggs into a pan are cracked

Yellow eyes looking up!

I'll bear witness, I'll wait in the eaves

Waves will crest white on the river

Leaves will bud green on the trees

Ants will march toward anthills

Birds will sing sweetly to bees

Now! While we still have time!

Daylight burns

Wheels on bicycles turn

Now! While we still have time!

Blue on white on grey on pink on orange

Put up the kickstand!

Take to the sky!
