Betrayal

Sometimes friends only want the best for you until it's not benefiting them

By Kiersten FoxPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I opened my petals to you,

hesitantly unfurled as you promised

"I'll always be there, you can trust me".

All the aches, the mistakes and regrets

you prompted me to bare like dew drops

glistening on my skin for all to see.

I revealed to you my hidden world,

desperate to grow despite my acrid soil.

I opened my petals to you,

in spite of constant fear,

because you assured me, "I've been there. I understand".

"I love you".

I opened my petals to you,

and at long last I bloomed. Full and proud.

Finally, I was strong and happy and sure, because of you.

Then suddenly, I was in the way

blocking the precious sunlight meant only for you.

You tore me, screaming, straight out of the ground

roots and all you plucked me

called me poisonous- a weed

you couldn't wait to rid yourself of.

I opened my petals to you,

but you let insecurity take hold like a disease,

cutting me down to make yourself feel big again.

You tried to take away my petals,

now all you deserve are my thorns
