Betrayal (inspired by Cask of Amonttillado by Edgar Allen Poe)

Trust is fragile.

By Maya PilgramPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Wicked though he feels it justified

Wants to be the one and only cause of his comrade’s demise

From the first spoken thoughts, his goals become clear

He desires much more than to make him cower in fear

Trusted, he is, by the person he plans to betray

Though it’s funny, the betrayed has in their fate, a say

On the drunken sin, he gets him

Little does he know, his feelings are only the prelim

A graveyard of sorts is where he is brought

Even with his drunken mind, he ignorantly fought

His chained and left to die

And to think the cause is only that of a lie

He is cemented into a wall

So that no passerby may hear his call

And there he is left to contemplate

Though all the signs were quite prognosticate

Though even if he were to rerun scenarios in his head

He is already pronounced dead

If only he’d been a little more mean

Maybe then he would’ve seen

He would’ve seen that within his eyes

There lies great despise

But maybe his death is best

Because maybe now he can finally rest

And not have to worry about that fickle friend

Who eventually brought him to his final end
