Days on a calendar
Marked like landmines
Avoided by eye
Only acknowledged when
Plan making,
A stuttering of a pen
Over a spot on the page,
Anniversaries best left forgotten
Marked by blackened days,
Twisted tops
And silent nights,
While other days sit waiting
Innocent in their tiny squares
Marked by a number,
A day of the week,
A social construct meant
To keep order-
Days to be filled
With sunshine and festivities
A party or perhaps
A wedding or birth,
A sunray finding a way
To overlap the darkness
That had encumbered
A square,
Turning the darkness to gray
And as time passes
And calendars flip
And weekday shifts-
Gray turns to white
To too bright illumination
Following a life
A smile-
That reminds you why
The days continue to fly.
