Behind My Teeth

Are Things I Could Never Say

These days, of late, I talk to myself

with thoughts, here, in my mind

Contained in mental prison cells

self imposed and self entwined

First employed, for my protection

as words against me, feel like weapons

Aggressive force of interjection

ending comfort in conversation

Behind my teeth, I bite my tongue

like a dam, holding back fury

Saving my breath, filling my lungs

because after all, it's better to be safe, than sorry
