Beginnings and Endings
For the “One of Us” Unofficial Poetry Challenge devised by Kayleigh Fraser
If tomorrow starts without me
I am happily elsewhere
Where life is static in reverie
And I can venture where I dare
.
Should a fortnight pass without me
What have I left behind?
Nothing but me and my daring latchkey
As you distance yourself in kind
.
If the New Year should start without me
The calendar departs relieved
To render me an amputee
Of the time that was ill-conceived
.
If the world should end without me
I will stay in my orbit still
I'll rebuke the enslaving gravity
That imprisoned me uphill
.
If God were to continue without me
Rethinking my disposition
Solipsism is anonymity
And Hell grants me my admission

This is very good. Love the image of the calendar amputee and the enslaving gravity. Well done.
This was so poignantly profound! Loved your take on this challenge!
Well done.
It's a poem of how to take on challenges.
This was such an enjoyable read. I didn’t know the word solipsism, but of course know the concept (it’s regularly pondered!), so thank you for this extra delight at the end!! 🤍🙏🏻
This reminds me of Emily Dickinson’s poetry. Lovely and mysterious with a hint of hidden powers. Really well down, Gerard!
