Gratitude

It’s early, and I’m awake.

The day is not yet dawned.

There’s crickets calling by the lake

A cat’s mewl sounds, forlorn.

I wonder, should I rise up now?

Let this day begin?

But from the comfort of bed I wonder how

And I further snuggle in.

Across this land the humans sleep

And yet I am awakened, wide.

The inner world, that lies deep

It swirls away inside.

The early hours bring many thoughts

Of old and distant times.

And wonderings, regrets and oughts

And old poetic lines

It brings dreams of what is to come

And the possibles of tomorrow

Yet in this moment the heart grows calm

In this space of now no sorrow

Only crickets and cats and a new day nigh

The breath of the mother

As children sleep and fathers sigh

We all, connected, one to the other.

You can feel it in the early morn

The humanness. Connection.

In this time, no fear, no scorn

No anger. No projection.

Only peace and a heart full of love

For all that this life brings.

A moment of gratitude. Gift from above.

When the soul can dance and sing.

Thank you life, thank you

For giving me to me.

For giving me the ones I love.

In this moment, I am free.
