Before I Wake

A Comfort Poem

My body floats in rest

I feel no weight around me, only softness

This is the moment of each day

A minute that lasts an age, embraced in contentment

Ahh, to experience a true sensation of peace!

My breaths are slow, and deep

I curl my toes through the sheets, ripping into the absurdity of my disillusioned dreams

For this is not yet fully awake

Blue hills and oceans of tea dance in my head

Swimming without a need for lungs

There is a mountain and a trail and some snow covered trees

And a blurry series of birds and beasts roam the woods freely

Poised to participate in deep thought

My subconscious appeasement

I have found tranquility is a white bliss

There is no sense, or need for sense

Enchanted by my own imagination

An immaterial subjective absoluteness

There is an account of my failures and good deeds

But no worry of darkness blankets me

Fear cannot overtake

Orchards of the multiverse ripe for exploration

There is a fountain surpassing the feasible by impossible means

A flurry unraveling reality’s bodiless fabric

Adaptable in a boundaryless outer-space

Pizza with marshmallow crust

An omnipotent owl and her sugarplum nest of fluff

My attachment to reality is a pillow

I transform it’s existential function to a bridge of disassociation

It gently carries me into a wonderland

Returning to a cloud of my deepest thoughts

And bizarre cognizance

Drifting back into la la land

I am a creature of my inner illustration

No anxiety of mortal pain, death, or substance

Innocent to the illusion of my waking life

Numb to any matter

Any amount in this creation proceeds willfully

The blue hills have faces, intertwined designs are flawless

Lucid, weightless, my prize here is comfort

Aspiring to connect the space between sleep and awake.
