Becoming the Sea

A collaborative poem of a mermaid’s dream

By Melissa IngoldsbyPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊

You didn’t make me, in this sea of pain

Dystopia in my mind, It set tears

My words lost to me, our song, my heart, drained

Dysmorphia in my water ways—-fear.

🌊

I’m in the clouds, a palpable sigh, rain

Sea foam, from whence I came, I am my own.

I was still yours, even in her arms, lost.

But my love was given at such high cost

🌊

My body dissolves, my flesh becomes clear

From solid to liquid, bone to water

Where was a creature— now floating so near

I was your mermaid, the ocean’s daughter

I’m one with the foam, on waves rushing in

On Silver Tides; Forever a Queen
