Becoming

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 4 months ago 1 min read

[Verse]

I asked the sun why it burns so bright

It whispered low

"I fight the night"

Its rays cut through like jagged glass

A glow that scars but has to last

[Prechorus]

It sighed

It swayed

Said

"We all decay"

[Chorus]

It hurts to become

It hurts to shine

Breaking apart just to align

Every spark's a scream

Every flame's a climb

It hurts to become

But that’s the design

[Verse 2]

The moon just laughed

Soft and pale

It said

"I borrow light to tell my tale"

The stars blinked back

They’ve seen it all

But even they collapse and fall

[Prechorus]

They fade

They blaze

Through endless haze

[Chorus]

It hurts to become

It hurts to grow

Cracking the shell to let it show

Every burst’s a wound

Every beam’s a blow

It hurts to become

And still we glow
