BEAUTIFUL LIFE

I feel a particular diffuse pleasure

it must be gratitude

I have lost my shape

from being stretched to wrap around cosmic questions

and I barely know myself

from being stretched thinly over the sterile voids of life

but nevertheless

I try to push out a smile

as if to say “thank you.”

for having given me the gift of not being so iced up

like the rest of the world

that does not even seem to know it

just how wonderful it is to live

to be alive

just how tremendous it is

to be this small creature

walking out into the world

with a sense of awe

every single day
