Beach House

Coastal Storm

A flash of electrostatic blue-white

Slashes across the oppressive black satin sky

A deep thrum and boom follows shortly thereafter

Heralding the onset of another dangerous night

***

Animals scatter to take shelter

As I hunch within my hood

Hands deep in damp pockets

With hopes, it will be over soon

***

In the distance, the gales begun

Churning up the cold dark sea

Swells of epic proportions

Turn into waves as big as trees

***

The sea wall seems in danger

Of yet another breach

The sea foaming at the mouth

Bully it mercilessly

***

In the good weather my little house

A picturesque vision

Views of boats crossing the bay

My real-life oil painting

***

I love my life here

Diving and surfing and more

My life entwined with the sea

Is absolute heaven to me

***

But as the weather turns ugly

The coastal waters follow suit

The dark sea seems in danger

Of crushing my hopes and dreams

***

I hunch my shoulders up higher

And bend into the wind

Praying to the sea gods

That by morning my dream still stands

***

I watch from a safe distance

As the waves hammer the sea wall

Behind which my home cowers

To ride out the storm

***

As dawn breaks on still seas

With but a breath of wind left behind

My little house peaks out smiling

Still standing proud

***

Sure a bit of TLC required

But she has survived against all odds

Like a grizzled old sailor

Once again spared by the sea gods
