Be the Person Your Dog Thinks You Are

Verse 1
Well I woke up late with my hair a mess,
Spilled my coffee on my brand‑new vest.
But my old hound dog didn’t seem to mind—
He wagged his tail like I was somethin’ fine.
He don’t care ’bout bills or my beat‑up car,
He just thinks I’m some kinda big ol’ star.
Chorus
So I’m tryin’ real hard, though it ain’t that far,
To be the person my dog thinks I are.
He believes I’m brave, he believes I’m kind,
He thinks I hung the moon in the sky last night.
If I get lost, he’s my North Star—
Just be the person your dog thinks you are.
Verse 2
My neighbor said I’m a little bit strange,
Talkin’ to my dog like we’re on the same page.
But he listens better than most folks do,
And he never judges when I track in mud too.
He don’t gossip, lie, or hold a grudge—
He just loves me with that tail‑thumpin’ thud.
Chorus
So I’m tryin’ real hard, though it ain’t that far,
To be the person my dog thinks I are.
He believes I’m good, he believes I’m true,
He thinks I’m the hero in every room.
If I get lost, he’s my North Star—
Just be the person your dog thinks you are.
Bridge
He don’t care ’bout money, fame, or pride,
He just wants shotgun on the passenger side.
And when life gets rough, he don’t jump ship—
He just sticks by me with them sloppy‑kiss lips.
Final Chorus
So I’m tryin’ real hard, though it ain’t that far,
To be the person my dog thinks I are.
He believes I’m strong, he believes I’m smart,
He thinks I’m a saint with a big ol’ heart.
If I get lost, he’s my North Star—
Just be the person your dog thinks you are.
