Silent Messages

Battles

What more can be done in these fleeing years,

To hold back the sorrows, to wipe away tears?

Is it that I have failed in some way,

Or put off things to another day?

What more can I do at this point in my life,

In a world filled with controversy and strife?

Wasn’t it enough that I gave my last dime,

To the wayward woman or man sometimes?

What more can I do to show you my heart,

As I stand here beside you as things fall apart?

Wasn’t it enough that my soul was given away,

So that life, as we know it, continues another day?

What more do I have to offer I’ve often wondered,

As I’ve pondered the questions that remain unanswered?

Wasn’t it enough to have given my life,

To all those I’ve known both noble and lowlife?

I’ve wondered often like others about this existence,

Whether it’s worth the effort, worth the persistence.

Then, from between time and space the purpose it came

It was not for me that I remained in this body chained.

My purpose, heretofore shrouded in mystery but now revealed,

Was to stand the onslaught of life’s trials as I kneeled.

So fight the good fight, for many, there will be,

For there were many I’ve overcome, battles you didn’t see.

From cradle to grave, a lifetime’s journey to finish,

With it’s wordless chorus of victories our soul replenishes.

Then, once the mountain tops we’ve reached,

We can pass on to those who’ve watched our glorious release.
