So civilised are we
In this concrete construct,
Patiently queueing from cradle to grave.
So socialised are we
That only when we choose to look away
Can we ignore the pulse of humanity in their stare
And so the dance goes on,
And the tune they crooned to us from birth
Is the pounding beat beneath our step
But it was not so long ago
Our bare feet ran on forest floor;
And at the snap of twigs we drew our bows -
so brazenly barbarian we were
We are not so brazen anymore.
We cannot wander from our concrete jungle.
So we cut the queue
Dangle our perfume like lures
And hope that when we lock eyes
We don’t see past the blatant humanity -
To the longing for the hunt.
