Banshee

A supernatural warning

By Mark Stigers Published about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

I live in the Irish countryside.

I sound like a woman’s cry.

It will strike a deep chill inside,

it means someone’s going to die.

For such a long, long time,

we women of the fairy mound,

have given this dark sign

that for death, someone is bound.

Sometimes you’ll hear a moaning sound.

Sometimes it’s a blood-curdling scream.

Across the valley it echoes around,

the sound of a supernatural being.

I am not a wicked thing.

I am here to let you know.

I’m a frightening warning-

someone’s time has come to go.

To certain families, I am known.

I follow ancient bloodlines.

When they hear me groan

they know it’s a mourning time.
