The woman looks down at her large, ever-looming stomach.

It grows every day and as her skin gets smoother, she is not sure how much more the skin can stretch.

As she rubs more lotion upon herself to prevent stretch marks and the itching she smiles for she knows that soon her baby will be here.

Her skin is stretched thin as if it were a blank canvas waiting for the birth of something new.

Her breasts enlarged with nourishment for the newborn babe.

Soon the day arrives and the pains start. The labor is not an easy thing to endure but it brings forth her son whom she has waited for many months.

As he enters the world, his first cry is strong, loud, and smooth. She is sure that the whole hospital must know her son has arrived.

She holds this precious bundle for the first time and notices the softness of his head.

Everything about him is so soft, so smooth...from the top of his head to his tiny feet.

She holds his tiny hands and counts each finger one by one. And then the toes. Noting on each of the toes and the fingers how soft and frail his nails are but also how very sharp they are.

His tiny stomach and chest move up and down with each breath and it seems to her that the tightness that was her stomach but a few days ago she can now see on her son.

Her own stomach is now soft and mushy, lax with the extra skin she no longer needs.

Her son's skin is so soft and new, a fresh canvas.

So soft and pure and innocent in this world.

Her son's eyes are pure, smooth, clear, and ready for anything.

The innocence is almost too pure as he suckles for food at her breast.

It causes her to cry and then laugh. Oh! What a joy to have this child.
