Awaiting Zero Hour

An Abecedarian Epic

By Xine SegalasPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Apocalyptic times ahead will force

Boys and men to

Come forward and

Dare to take responsibility

Even if at first

Fear may grip them

Greatly keeping them from moving

Helpless, they stand there

Inside their stomachs twist and turn

Just then, one steps forward

Keeping the line straight

Light falls upon the man

Men shrink back from him

Nothing they can do

Orders are orders

Plenty of men have been here before

Quarters and barracks stuffed full

Runny-nosed boys bare-chested

Stand side by side

They wait for the signal

Until it comes

Victory will be theirs

When the time arrives

X marks the spot

Young boys and men will die

Zero Hour

Xine Segalas your acrostic poem, aligned with each letter of the alphabet, creates a powerful and evocative narrative.
