Autumn Changes

a free verse poem

The leaves on the maples,

in hues of orange and yellow,

stir up cliches

about halcyon days

when that final horizon

seemed so far away;

times when it was

unimaginable

that I would ever be

this fragile shell

of my former self;

the veil between

autumn and winter

ever so thin.
