I’ve known men like you

Heroically tolerating

My coruscating demeanour

Unamused, obligated

Resigned to the minutes

You must toil

In my presence

I’ve known women like you

Bewildered

By my asynchronous rhythm

Uncertain how anyone

This bizarre could be

An adult

Secretly pitying

My salacious narrative

Overestimating your grey-box life

I’ve known children like you

I once was one, in fact

Awestruck by existence

Imagination rampant

Fabricating new realities

Just for kicks

Making forts out of boxes

Laying in fields, naming clouds

Tall grass; a haven

For brilliant solitude

I’ve known cats like you

All claws and teeth

Pouncing on your prey

Show me your underbelly

Please may I

Stroke your soft places

Let us comfort one another

Without words

I’ve known loneliness like you

Yet here I am

Writing you a poem

Not afraid to be lonely

Though sad

At the thought

You might be lonely too

So, you see

I am someone like you

Who likes to look

At the world; meditating

On what it all could mean

And how it might end

Oh... I like the mystery air dressed in your prose. It's almost like you're somewhere in the background. And the main characters are the women, the men and the children — cats — loneliness. Faceless... Beautiful. 'Tall grass; a haven' Indeed Indeed. I like the last line. It ended with a tease. Your poem was alluring yet so very thought provoking. Congratulations on your top story 🎉🎉🎉

This hits quietly but deeply. It’s comforting to know that somewhere out there, someone else is reflecting on the same questions, with the same kind of wonder. Maybe we're not as alone in our thoughts as we think.

My goodness, this was beautiful. I love the rhythm and the craft of your words and how they flow, and I love how you address each sector of the beings in your life only to bring it back to this gorgeous, interpersonal core, a reflection on what could only be your life. Amazing work as always!!

  • This was so beautifully introspective. Loved your poem and photo!

    Absolutely lovely work

  • This felt like an intimate conversation with the self—and with all the selves we meet in others. Beautifully strange, achingly human. Your final lines linger like an echo. Thank you for this.
