Recline in glory
Summer Dionysus
August is your form
Robes of sluggish rivers
Wind round languid limbs
Heads in shadow
Under wide brimmed hats
Bodies on display
For your pleasure
We all crave touch
That lingers after sundown
Red flush remains
Stinging kisses soothed
By aloe at the ready
Lovers trace your mark
On one another’s flesh
What happens under tan lines
Stays between them
Despair hovers
On horizon’s glow
I wish you would
Take up arms
Battle September
Drive him mad
Put him to death
Alas you are
No Ares
You are
Sweet wine
Rich music
Sunset picnics
On Sunset Hill
When light dims
We will lift our cups
Knight us in parody
Bestow thyrsus blessings
Theatrical frivolities ignite
Bacchanal dance
Infusing frenzied souls
With ecstatic abandon
Soon we will
Depart from these
Courtyard couches
Close up shop
Wrap up our
Newly bronzed bodies
In leggings and sweaters
Swapping wine
For spiced coffee
Cracking textbooks
Report on experiments
When I walk along
Tree lined paths
Golden leaves
Gilding trails
I will collect pinecones
Weave a wreath
For my front door
Dedicated pleasure
In attendance to thee

What a beautiful poem! And such a thoughtful birthday gift.
Lovely birthday poem for Andrea (I didn't know 😁)
"What happens under tan lines Stays between them" I especially loved those lines! And I learned two new words from you, frivolities and bacchanal
OH my GOODNESS! Thank you, my sweet poetess Vocal friend! How wonderful are you to write this for my August birthday! I love, love, love it. “What happens under tan lines Stays between them” is so clever. bronzing, wine, sunset picnics - sigh - And then the lovely move into September and its golden leaves, collecting pinecones. Brilliant …. and 1000 thank yous!! 🥰😍😍
