At First Sight.

A Poem

By Cathy (Christine Acheini) Ben-Ameh.Published 4 years ago Updated 4 years ago 1 min read

The sound of your voice

Makes the distance between us

Seem so small.

And in this waiting room

With hardly enough room for two

Our opposite ends attract

And a wild fire ignites;

My fear is my inhibition

Your pride a rude obstruction

But our hearts collide

In bubbles tumbling down a landslide

Of an ocean of uncertainty

Reminding us how melodies

Die and come to life…

Slowly growing as the sunrise

Teasing my senses with your heart cry

Sending its electricity to jolt mine

Awake into ecstasy that makes

My brainworks threaten to decline

Their sane function

And so, I'm inclined to embrace the unction

Of admitting,

I want you too.

The music's fading out

As though we're under water.

Locked in your gaze

Your eyes throw me into a daze

I lack the words to utter

And so I simply mutter

Into the cocktail straw

I raise to my mouth

Hoping that you wander

To me with that proud swagger

I imagine that you have.

Distractedly you lick your lips

I lick mine,

And the dancing people fade into a blurred line.

You refuse to lose me

Holding our gaze

With laser focus through the bodies

That stand in our way.

I blink for a moment

And you disappear

Leaving me to wonder

If you were ever really here.
