At First Glance

from across the room

A flash of warmth

and centripetal pull

Your smile says you also feel

this force between us two

Our feet move us closer

from across the room

I hear your voice and want it

playing my name

again and again

We’re close

not near enough

the crowd slows our flame

One thousand miles is not as far

as the distance we have to make

'Til we are

face to face

our heartbeat drowns out sound

keeping rhythm together

louder than alone

Eyes speak a million words

before mouths ever move

No small talk needed

after our souls united

in an instant

at first glance

love poems
