Ashes I’ve Outgrown
"I do not owe anyone the ashes I’ve outgrown."
I walked through fire thinking it was home,
but even embers burn out.
Now I wear light like armor,
soft, but never breakable again.
I’ve buried versions of me
that were never mine to keep.
