As The World Crumbles
a poem by @philosopherbonnie

As the world crumbles,
The shrill sobs of despair,
Of suffering souls,
Etched in our ears.
Do we watch?
Studying the swirling around the drain that never flushes,
Overflowing heaps of crumbled life -
Leaking lumps,
Sopping stinkingly with reality.
Do we try to help?
What help is there when so much is unstable,
Unthinkable,
Collapsing under the weight of unsinkable?
Do we hide?
Ensconced in privileged blanket fort surrounded by cats,
Or photos of friend's cats,
Or memes about cats.
When there is no "I",
Just "we",
And we are the ones we've been waiting for,
But all the illusion of the separate "I" is so real,
And the suffering is so real,
And the screams and silent sobbing is so real,
And the coping mechanisms aren't working,
And the system isn't going to save anyone,
And hope isn't worth the paper it's printed on,
And love is bound and tied and constricted -
Oh look, a brand new shiny topic.
Rich powerful man did what now?
New tech for the blanket fort?
Hey look, I made this new cat meme.
