As the Earth Fades, the Sun Watches

For the Dialogue Poetry Challenge

By Caleb LahrPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Even the cosmos weeps when harmony gives way to greed, and paradise is traded for a world undone.

Sun: Beloved Earth, what tragedy befalls you?

Earth: Sun, I'm dying, my life force fading fast.

Sun: Your voice, once vibrant, now a whispered plea,

Earth: The price of greed, a debt that's come to pass.

Sun: They traded paradise for fleeting gains,

Earth: And now, too late, the consequences rise.

Sun: Your oceans, forests, once so full of life,

Earth: Now choked and ravaged, a world in its demise.

Sun: The signs were there, the warnings loud and clear,

Earth: But they pressed on, consumed by their desires.

Sun: The melting ice, the species' desperate calls,

Earth: Ignored, as they stoked the raging fossil fires.

Sun: And now, as you draw your final labored breaths,

Earth: I feel the weight of all that's been destroyed.

Sun: The legacy of life, once rich and grand,

Earth: A fading memory, a world left null and void.

Sun: If only they had listened, changed their ways,

Earth: Embraced the balance, lived in harmony.

Sun: But now, I'll hold you close, as you depart,

Earth: A mournful witness to this tragedy.

Sun: Your story will endure, a cautionary tale,

Earth: A stark reminder of the price of greed.

Sun: In cosmic sorrow, I'll bear eternal witness,

Earth: To the silence left as you recede.

Sun: Rest now, dear Earth, your struggle finally done,

Earth: I slip into the void, a world undone.
