As Seen on TV: A Guide to Disappearing
by R.C. McLeod
If you wish to disappear,
you needn’t look too far
for an example
to help you disappear.
No matter how far,
the guides are ample:
-
Maybe you just want to be overlooked,
like the unknown princess of San Francisco.
Invisible, a no one beneath a mane of frizz
and eyebrows dubbed “Frida” and “Kahlo.”
She learned it was looks and status that made
it easier for her to simply fade.
-
Or maybe you want to disappear,
yet still walk among people with agility?
Perhaps you’d make a simple deal with death
and take his own cloak of invisibility!
You walk through life hidden this way,
and maybe even from death you’d hide away.
-
Or maybe you want to truly vanish,
evaporate and leave this world behind –
(I wouldn’t recommend it) but I’ve heard:
an icy bucket of water from Oz, you’ll find
will melt without flame and gasoline –
though, it may only work for those with skin of green.
-
Maybe you don't want to disappear completely,
but simply hide your identity,
Masks, glasses, or even a tiara can add anonymity.
-
The examples are all around you –
of how to disappear:
the dark alleyways that lead to mystery
or haunted mansions that lead to history.
So, it just depends on you –
on how you wish to disappear.
I’m no expert on this artistry,
but hey, it all works as seen on TV.
