Armour

colour dressing

By Tace KellyPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Out of the lavender covers

Clothes bulging from the racks

Stand in bland underwear (grey)

Rummage to find me

Wide legged purple pants

royal and synthetic

A gift from my aunty (80s nightclubs)

Take her confidence into the day

Purple Prince Power

Fitted green top

Green + Purple (magic, monsters, and flowers)

Now.

Must add (hot) pink

Earrings OR socks?

The sneakers with the orange laces

But where will the blue go?

Orange puffer jacket. Needs a wash. Smells of a fire

It’s all second hand (except the underwear)

re-worn/re-born

I know all the bodies that lived in them before

No soft hue hangs off my body

Bright & Bold

Earrings—big pink neon (a nod to the club)

Silver lives on fingers and wrists—dinted, scratched, and unpolished

Holds people and places

A silver chain as well…and choker?

Queer signals

Change to yellow socks

Comb and spray red hair

Ginger, Ranga, Carrot Top

Sunset eyes-orange/pink/gold tones

Black eyeliner and mascara

Fairy floss lips

Peach cheeks

Aqua Pierrot dots under the eyes

Rubix Cube bag (Fran Fine)

My Armour

Bright & bold

& loud

Add a little bit,

and then a little more

No fear

Out the door

performance poetry
