Arachnophobia

The Fear of Man

By Jayn LaurePublished 5 years ago 1 min read
Spiders & Unrequited Love: A series of poems, including Arachnophonia (The Fear of Man).

Without warning,

You are there.

Staring.

All eyes trained on me;

Your path, direct and foreboding.

My heart catches in my throat.

I can no longer breathe.

You have trapped me in your malicious aura

I will you to disappear,

And yet you approach without regard

Your desire, your only concern

That you cannot read

The trepidation in my eyes.

I can't bring myself to look away,

For fear that you will catch me by surprise

That you would dare

Touch me with your ill intentions

To invade my space

To whisper

You are beautiful, Smile for me

My skin crawls

Bile threatens to escape my constricted throat

As I fight the trembling of every muscle

In this body, you gaze upon hungrily

Greedily

Your existence

Terrorizes my every cell

And with these shoes

I work up the courage

To neutralize you

If only in my mind

As I walk away

And hope you don't follow.
