Aphrodite Rose
for Summer Solstice At The Standing Stones - A Mikeydred June Dollar Prompt For All Vocal Creators

Aphrodite red rose, June’s birth flower
cradling a tree frog in your bower
velvet petals his daytime dais
Adonis is sleeping under your gaze
Aphrodite, keep your Adonis safe,
hold him through the day, this waif
nestled in your blossom will leave tonight,
perhaps return at first light,
mounting your scarlet throne,
returning to his safe zone

According to numerous sources, the rose and honeysuckle are the birth flowers for June. The rose is the national flower of the United States, and is the flower usually associated with Aphrodite. I hope you enjoy the frog in the rose photo above. I am surprised daily by these Pacific tree frogs and the places the hide.

My sister's born in June, and it reminded me of her. Good luck with the challenge.
My best friend and I are both June birthdays and I got her a necklace with a rose on it! Love this poem and the allusions to mythology!
Beautifully written, Andrea! Your rhyme scheme is perfect and the flow is well metered. This is quality writing!
Well written, Andrea! This brought back memories of rainy nights in Eureka, when the chorus of tree frogs was truly eerie.
Beautiful poem and such a cute little frog! ☺️💙
