Anxiety's Love Poem

And other cloudy thoughts

Sometimes I wish it was raining, even when the sun is shining.

I wish my mood reflected the weather.

Made it downcast, just like me.

If I feel like crying, why is the sky so blue and

Cloudless?

Sometimes I feel so stuck in my own bubble that

the first stanza actually makes sense.

I am so caught up in the weeds of my own mind to

Realize that the world and the weather,

both don't revolve around me.

Anxiety will do that to you.

Make you feel trapped in a cage that isn't real, a

silly game your brain creates to protect you from everything

except your own thoughts,

which might kill you anyway.

When you're in the cage, the sky might be blue, but the weather

Inside couldn't be more cloudy.

More rainy.

I take a deep breath and hope that the force of it will part the clouds

long enough to enjoy the outside sun from

inside the cage.

Yep anxiety and and other mental health issues can make you feel this way. Yesterday was my first time outside standing in the sun in a long time. It actually felt good ( I only did it because of my sister pushed me , she’s worried about my low vitamin D). But I don't think I would go by myself. Anyway, this poem was very relatable. And so well written.
