I bask in what you would term mediocrity
the more leisure time the merrier.
I'll accept this place in life laid back and chill
not worried about the future
subdued by pills.
I'll let out a carefree me
albeit disgraced.
I shouldn't have to be proactive -
to plead for things I should have and need
while the rat race
endless anyway
begs you to increase the pace
just to live in a world
none of us chooses to embrace.
It's kind of hard to love yourself
when your identity is more than your name
when the only thing each of us has
are thoughts...
be they of our fleeting successes
or of our grandest failures
or what could have been ...
or of our childhoods however bleak
which were the only periods of promise
with the worlds at our feet.
Come into this world with something to prove
and if it's a self-fulfilling and calculated goal
it passes muster for a calling
even if you're an ass@@le.
Even when God's lost souls
whom you deem pretenders
have to try harder
just to swallow their pride to get by
can't keep silent and suck it up
suck it down for good
spit in your face
you find it appalling that they would.
