Ant(ics)

this convenience will kill us all

all i could see from here to there

was a mountain, a small hill?

empty plastic coke bottles

the dynamic ribbon logo

flaccidly flapping in the artificial breeze

is it a warning or benign amusement

stale sugar and the faecal matter

of half a million or so semi sated ants

tracing a pheromone trail

left by those who ventured first,

left by those who went before,

left by those knowing ;

that they too, would

eventually return

every discarded bottle

waiting its turn in the ring

with mother nature

every discarded bottle

a rut in our road

to further progression

every discarded bottle

a testament to the lack

of adequate forethought

every discarded bottle

waits

to strangle a seal

waits

to choke a whale

waits

to ensnare an albatross

waits

to microscopically enter and pollute

the bloodstream of a billion new hosts

it waits

in this pile

or that pile

or the other

just waiting

and all the while

the earth cries silently

in a state of constant mourning

as the unrelenting stupidity

builds itself slowly

out of controlled waste

and out of control

ignorance and apathy
