Annie

A poem inspired by the beloved 2014 'Annie'

By Stephanie Published 6 years ago 1 min read

Running through the streets

Stomping to the beats

Waving at the people she meets

Even some of the creeps

Singing about the sun

That’ll come when the darkness is done

She is already having fun

She doesn’t care she’s the only one

Who believes

Declaring her future is bright

Even though every night

She has to turn out the light

On another day swept away

Another day that bites

But she doesn’t give up her fight

She chooses to overcome her plight

With faith-filled visions of her flight

Out of this lonely place she lives in

A place she didn’t choose

But she is driven

And nothing will stop her from being given

The liberation she believes in

She rises for a new day

With audacity that says “let’s play”

Even though she has no reason to say

Such joyous things

In fact she should pray

But she has unrelenting faith

And that gentle sort of grace

As she looks up at you with that innocent face

In your heart, for her you’ll always have a place

Oh Annie!

You run at such a pace!

You see the world as your endless space

Your young life has been such a race

Yet you rise up again with a smile on your face

And tolerate adults with such grace

You know someday you’ll find your place

And finally you’ll get to end your chase and rest from the race
