angels in the lake

by Katarina Tyler

I know that when she dies all things beautiful and soft will die with her / all her voicemail time capsules will break open on the corner of the yellow dresser she handed down to me / and her chest will fall on mine / blood in her mouth from biting her tongue will spill down my back / a goddess will always smile / I remember when I almost drowned and she screamed pulled my cold body from the lake and dressed me in warm clothes / she told me there were apple slices in the car / she told me there were angels in that lake /
