Angels

Perhaps every relationship has a lifespan?

The angels of our hearts

do not sing for each other

tonight.

.

There is a revolution

in heaven.

.

The demons

have taken the throne.

.

The beams of light

generated

by my poetic

and your analytic

memory

.

do not sanctify

their emotive breaths

any longer.

.

The age of us,

Is past.

.

I passed you on the road

this evening. I did not

.

acknowledge

your fallen form,

.

could not recognize

you without your wings,

.

could not see you

for what you

used to be.

.

For how you made

me feel,

to me, to us.

.

We are both fallen now,

unrecognizable.

.

Except to the beautiful

amalgamation of heaven

and hell,

for which we birthed

.

through tears

through blood

through rage,

.

and the baptismal fonts

of an old covenant.

.

Now we howl at god

and his injustice

.

for the roll

of the die

the turn of the coin

.

for what we do not feel,

for things

we cannot see.

.

But the wounds

on our backs

continue to bleed.

.

And bleed.
