... and taxes
Penned for the Lantern Light Challenge
To call it a glow
Would be untrue
To call it a glow
Would be a lie
To call it a glow
Would be to glorify that which simply is.
Unseen
Unheard
Not a whisper
Not a word
Creeping towards it
Constant motion
Soft-footing and striding
Confident and cowardly
There
Ahead
Glimmering in the silent night
As I lay not quite asleep in bed
Praying that for once I might
Be released outside my head
Away from the constant churning
Away from the lantern burning
Ahead of me in the silent night
Ahead of me in brightest day
Lingering behind every firelight
A figure with the light in hand
Ready to bear me away from this broken land
To take me by my strong or wizened hand
And light my way
To call it light would be a lie
To call the way I have to walk a way or path
Would be to give a name it has not earned
For either one implies
At least
That mortal man has even once returned.
Hanging unseen in the air
Hanging, known, and felt
Behind every smile and ahead of every eye
Ignored by those who know its there
Embraced by those in sorrow drowned
Hanging
Waiting
Burning with a constant steady flame
Glowing darkly
Comfort and isolation
Down a lonely trail that one day I must break
With only a lamp that isn't there
To light my way.

You have brought a lantern to guard against the dying of the light from Dylan Thomas
Great poem. This line was especially stood out to me: Unseen Unheard Not a whisper Not a word Good luck in the challenge!
