Akbar, who was a strict and traditional ruler, was enraged when he learned of their affair. He saw it as a threat to the stability of his empire and the purity of his royal bloodline. He ordered Anarkali to be imprisoned and sentenced to death for her transgressions.

Salim was devastated by the news of Anarkali's fate. He pleaded with his father to spare her life, but his pleas fell on deaf ears. Akbar was determined to enforce the law and the social hierarchy, even at the cost of his own son's happiness.

Legend has it that Anarkali was buried alive in a wall of the Lahore Fort, in present-day Pakistan, as punishment for her love for Salim. Some versions of the story suggest that Salim was present at the time of her execution and that he wept uncontrollably as he watched her being entombed.

The story of Anarkali and Salim has been immortalized in art and literature and has become a symbol of tragic love and forbidden passion. It has been adapted into plays, movies, and TV series, and has inspired countless artists and writers over the years.

Despite the historical inaccuracies and embellishments that have been added to the story over time, it remains a powerful and enduring tale of love and sacrifice.
