An Unapologetic Letter

From the Demon

By Bride of SoundPublished 7 months ago 1 min read
Drawing by Lara Thurston

I want you to know

I stole your man

and I didn’t do it

out of some quest for the truth

or because I’m a good person

who saw that he was tormented

and yearning to be freed-

that he’d be better off with me.

I did it because I’m sick

and I crave love

and when I see something that

isn’t mine

I take it

and I wrestle with it

until I’ve sucked the life out of it

and all that is left

is a carcass with sunken eyes

floating down river.

So I want you to know,

that even though

you are lost without him

and every day is insufferable to you,

that at least I got

what I wanted

and I hope you

live out the rest of your miserable days

yearning

and pining

and eating yourself fat

until you pop,

like a bloated

disgusting balloon.
