An Ode to the LGBTQ Community

I find myself most inspired by a family I don’t necessarily fit into.

Hues of red, orange, and yellow, green, purple, and blue.

I see you. And I support and love you too.

Love is love, it sees no boundaries. No limitations, noone’s property.

Unapologetically yourself, not looking for approval from anyone else.

That’s the key I learned from the LGBTQ community.

I used to worry about what some people in my suburban white neighborhood might think, “Is this girl stupid and weak?”

But then I realized these beautiful people are no longer afraid, so why should I be scared to speak up for what I want to say?

I will protect those who want to shine despite people who want to dim their light.

I will be a soul-dier, I will fight for what I know is right.

I will help others find their power from within, empower those who had to always give in.

I will help give a voice to those who could never find the words.

Release them from their cage, so they can fly with the birds.

Free from the chains of society and “the norm”, a rainbow always comes after the storm.
