You were my everything, my all in all
I always knew someday my Star would fall
To the fragility of this mortal existence
And the years just have such persistence
When you were young, you loved to play
We would play throughout the day
When I cried, you were by my side
From you, my tears, I didn't hide
When I hurt myself, you would run
To my side, lick my face and be the one
Who comforted me through all the years
But now, without you, I shed many tears
And when I cursed, you licked my lips
As if to clean them of such scripts
We huddled together throughout the night
Waking beside you always felt so right
Then one day I saw you stumble
Down the stairs, you did tumble
I was heartbroken to find
That my Star had gone blind
I had not noticed it before
But now I saw even more
You became confused and walked in circles
Life was giving us such hurdles
You became quiet you would not bark
At this point, you lost your spark
Old age had indeed caught up to you
17 years we had been through
Doggie dementia stole my Star
But now you must be happier where you are
To run and play and bark again
Some day I will see you when
My day comes, and it's time to go
I will see you again over the rainbow
