An Evening In August

A sonnet for my love.

By Alexis DentPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
The very step we met that summer evening.

The step where I realized I’d marry you:

It’s symbolic to me still to this day.

We sat and looked up at the sky so blue,

And I wasn’t quite sure what I should say.

The sun beat down on our faces just right,

And I could fully admire your eyes.

They matched the bright sky much to my delight

As a gentle breeze took us by surprise.

You listened; I talked about family,

Then whisked me off for part two of our date.

Now my family includes you with me,

And that step marks the first step of our fate.

This great love was built brick by brick by brick,

And if time turned back it’s still you I’d pick.
