Free verse — A poem about a gesture
Pat from left and right
hush every deep insight
surrender not your very core
but can’t not but give it all
fight the urge that grows within
embrace all that is creeping in
crush and grind to little bits —
and swallow to turn it in
cry at night but fight
something in and out resists
something in and out accepts
persist in finding what might — there is
Pout not, there is bliss —
Still

This poem is a powerful exploration of internal conflict and the struggle for self-expression. The use of free verse allows the poet to capture the raw emotion and intensity of the experience. The stark imagery and contrasting emotions create a sense of tension and vulnerability. The poem's message of resilience and the search for meaning resonates deeply. It's a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is always hope and the potential for growth.
