An Embrace Unparalleled

The First Frost

By Katherine D. GrahamPublished 2 months ago Updated 2 months ago 1 min read

<><><><><><><><><><>><<><><><><><><><><><><><>

The warmth of summer past, once held in the glow in the trees

and the smell of earth and worms that comes alive in the rain,

ceases one Autumn day. Around lavender, there is a silence of bees.

The bird’s songs and movements remain no longer the same.

<><><><><><><><><><>><<><><><><><><><><><><><>

The temperature falls. The distant sun sits low, letting cold's frigid touch

chill the air. What once held Life lies in the Earth with nary a breath.

The grass that once held dewdrops at dawn, is grasped in a clutch.

The air splinters to a frozen depth, along the path of a fractal death.

<><><><><><><><><><>><<><><><><><><><><><><><>

Leaves drop, forming a circle that soon flutters into the air

as heavy-laden cloud fronts push winds and pressures down.

Storms rage and howl. This is the time to bolster strength, to dare

face hurling winds that reverse an umbrella around, making it a crown.

<><><><><><><><><><>><<><><><><><><><><><><><>

Clouds pass but the bitterness makes the atmosphere skip one phase shift.

Sight, sound, smell and touch condense and are shrouded in the sublimed.

Then there is a distinct shift. Rarefaction drifts in, offering a marriage gift.

Transparent pneumatic spirits design matter, purely distilled, and refined.

<><><><><><><><><><>><<><><><><><><><><><><><>

Each surface is sprinkled with the invisible, then as if with purpose,

Nature paints one-of-a-kind leaves, with finely ground diamonds

and coats these riches on branches, leaves and any reflective surface.

A masterpiece, capturing glimmering icons, is born of sunlit horizons.

<><><><><><><><><><>><<><><><><><><><><><><><>

Coated in coldness, the world slows down and is still.

The air is a semisolid clear mist, with shards that make the lungs seize.

The hardship of exploring the shattering veil is worth the thrill.

It evokes a rare state of being, that can please, making challenges ease.

<><><><><><><><><><>><<><><><><><><><><><><><>

Nature reveals, how spontaneous, unique decisions are made.

Without thought, attachments create wonders that are marvelled,

then the ephemeral cold frost glare seems like a dream that does fade.

The brilliance flickers, and is quelled, yet defines an embrace unparalleled.
