An Artist, not a Mathematician

A Short, Inspirational Poem that brings back High School memories.

By Rika LekayPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

***

Stop shoving numbers down my throat,

I will not be backed into a corner.

Just give up, my dear.

It's no use. I cannot decipher...

That nonsense.

***

Never give me up, you say?

It's no use, can't you see?

It's as clear as day...

I'm free!

***

Free in my imagination,

Taking my own destination.

I don't need quadratic equations,

My mind just wants to take an imaginative vacation.

***

Trigonometry and calculus,

My oh my, aren't these disastrous!

Draining out my creativity left and right,

Now tell me, is that really alright?

***

I had all my mathematical credits finished,

I didn't need my creative spirit to vanish out of thin air.

I'm an artist, can't you see?

Just glare up at me and you'll see my fiery flare.

***

Though, you may not recognize me now,

My spirit is still the same as always.

I've battled some hardships and now I take a bow,

Below the archways...

***

Are you proud?

Scratch that, this isn't about you, it's about me.

I'll say it loud,

"I am free!"

Free at last...

To express myself as I please.
